Job Purpose
The Senior Manager, Applications Engineering owns the technical
engagement with our customer engineering teams to design and
develop technical solutions and associated costing, submittals and
performance assurance for the application of Karno Generators in
the stationary and mobile power generation market. This role will
work closely with engineering, sales, channel, and supplier
partners to help bring the most cost effective and reliable
technical solutions to meet customer needs and inform our product
needs of the future. This role involves the ability to work as a
leader with direct reports(s) and also independently as a hands-on
individual contributor, and to flex according to business needs.
Requires strong experience and expertise in distributed energy
resources and/or experience in the application of generating
resources using natural gas, hydrogen, waste gas (landfill, field
gas).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for strong pre-sales customer engagement to
translate customer requirements into effective technical solutions
for Karno generators in the power generation segment. Plays an
integral part of inquiry to order process working closely with the
sales and business development team.
- Develops and compiles techno-commercial responses (detailed
project specification analysis, lead pricing development,
construction estimating / subcontractor scope of work and engaging
third party vendors) for Karno Generators and associated balance of
plant equipment in response to RFPs/ RFQs, customer and project
development inquiries. Support complex proposals related to large
turnkey projects.
- Provides engineering data, documentation, and training to
customers to support the design and integration of equipment in
their site solutions.
- Develops QA/QC (quality assurance / quality control) and
commissioning data packs as needed with project teams. Possess good
understanding of both electrical, mechanical design and engineering
solutions.
- Supports the organization's efforts in promoting Karno
Generator solutions to customers by presenting product benefits and
its value additions to customers in conferences, industry forums
and in key customer partnership sessions.
- Resident expert in stationary and mobile power generation
applications and collaborates with product management and product
engineering team to develop robust product portfolio.
- Assist in on-site commissioning of Karno generators, including
troubleshooting system issues, and making recommendations on
applicable features and software parameters.
- Contribute to the development and standardization of pricing
models, quotation tools and processes to provide best-in-class
service to our customers and improve proposal efficiency.
- Develops strong working relationships with customer technical
team to serve as their primary contact for specific product related
technical information, resolve complex installation issues and
facilitate customer requests.
- Ensures that Karno Generators are applied and installed
correctly to meet design and customer system requirements and
applicable codes, standards, etc.
- Works independently and/or as a team member or leader.

Qualifications Include:
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
required.
- 10+ years of experience working in a similar applications
engineering role in Power Generation industry, etc.
- Specialized knowledge/Professional Certifications
(preferred)
- Understands basic to medium complex level specifications for
engineered projects.
- Understands basic industry standards and codes such as NEMA,
NFPA, IEC, IEEE, UL, etc.
- Understands basic industry requirements and emissions standards
for stationary and mobile power generation industry (EPA, CARB DG,
etc.)
- Prior experience in design and development of microgrids or
projects involving natural gas, waste gas, cogeneration, landfill
gas a strong plus.
- EPC project engineering, product conceptual design and
system-level trade-off experiences strong plus.
- Skills and Experience
- Possesses a deep understanding of relevant markets,
relationship with industry stakeholders, and knowledgebase of key
factors that would ultimately help win bids.
- Exhibits a good knowledge of best practices; technically savvy
to understand emerging competitive landscape and the factors that
differentiate them in the market.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical subject
matter with external partners and customers.
- Knowledge and practice of safety precautions related to working
with electrical and electronic equipment. Demonstrated ability in
representing company interests in developing customer relationships
and ensuring long-term customer satisfaction.
- Experience in writing and reviewing subcontractor work scopes
and subcontractor agreements; GSA purchasing requirements; being
able to evaluate proposals for specification compliance.
- Ability to lead, mentor, coach and develop team.
Working Conditions
This is a salaried, exempt-level position. Additionally, this
position typically works in an office environment; and given the
nature of our business is exposed to operations/warehouses.
Physical/Other Requirements
- Ability to travel frequently, approximately 25-40% of the
time.
Direct Reports
This position has the potential to have direct reports at either
exempt or non-exempt levels based on the needs of the department
and the company.
